Phishing has been defined as one of the most common, dangerous, and effective cyber threats around the world. Though Phishing has been on the rise for a very long time due to COVID when almost everything has shifted online and businesses are running remotely, phishing attacks have reported a massive surge all over the world.

Research by an independent firm showed that the attacks increased 667% in the Covid period. Since this has become a global concern, today we have Saud Bin Ahmed who is a Sharjah Based Tech Entrepreneur and Influencer, who will reflect more light on the following topic. He is the Founder of a Technical Support Company that provides Cyber Security Solutions and has worked actively to secure thousands of websites and electronic accounts.

Speaking on the topic Saud says- Before learning about protection from a phishing attack we need to understand what is a phishing attack. A phishing link “calls for an action”. This may require installing third-party software, or they may simply ask for your login credentials while pretending to be from an official company. But actually, these files are viruses and malware and therefore damage your files and even steal your personal information. The most common form of phishing attacks occurs through E-mails.

To protect yourself and your organization from phishing attacks I would recommend strong cyber security because as a corporate firm you deal a lot with e-mails as they are the most common form of formal communication today. Setting up E-mail gateways is a great option to consider as these protect you from receiving unwanted, suspicious, or unverified e-mails from various sources. Another protection can be done post the email has been delivered to your inbox, using inbox defenders you can still block a phishing email that has managed to enter your inbox.

Another effective way could be to install all protective anti-virus software that will secure your PC completely. Saud himself has an experience of more than a decade in cyber security. He was the first Emirati to dismantle the infamous ransomware in 2013 which had affected many systems around the world. He has been a part of the Ministry’s team to curb down fake news and propaganda as well. And has also worked with the President of the Arab Parliament, His Excellency, Ahmed Bin Muhammad Al Jarwan, as a consultant and programmer for his website in 2011.
