Apple Releases the First Teaser for “The Lost Bus” A Wildfire Drama

The official teaser for the suspenseful survival thriller The Lost Bus, starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, has been released by Apple Original Films. The film, which was directed by Paul Greengrass, re-examines the horrific real-life events of the deadliest wildfire in California history, the 2018 Camp Fire. The Lost Bus is a compelling tale of bravery, resiliency, and the human spirit in the face of tragedy, set against the backdrop of unspeakable destruction.

Ahead of its fall release in a few theaters and on Apple TV+, Apple TV posted the teaser on their official YouTube page. Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey plays Kevin McCay in the teaser, a lowly school bus driver who turns into an unlikely hero. McCay must negotiate perilous circumstances while the town of Paradise burns down in order to save 23 pupils and their teacher, Mary Ludwig, played by America Ferrera. Their trek turns into a last-ditch struggle for survival as the fire closes in and their escape routes disappear. McCay is shown in the teaser as being determined to save the lives of the children and their instructor.

Spencer Watson, Ashlie Atkinson, and Yul Vazquez also give performances in The Lost Bus, which deepens this intense ensemble drama. Paul Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby, who wrote Mare of Easttown, co-wrote the screenplay.

Real-life incidents detailed in Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 nonfiction book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire serve as the basis for the movie. The neighborhood was forever changed by the Camp Fire, which started in Butte County in November 2018 and destroyed hundreds of homes, killed 86 people, and burned over 150,000 acres.
