In the next Universal sequel, Owen Wilson will be joining Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in the cherished Meet the Parents franchise. Wilson, who currently stars in the critically acclaimed series Stick on Apple TV+, will return for the upcoming installment of the popular comedy series.
Oscar-nominated music sensation Ariana Grande is the huge new face for the film, while Teri Polo, who also acted in the first three films released in the 2000s, is making a comeback.
The next film’s screenplay was written by John Hamburg, who also co-wrote the three previous movies and will serve as director. The movie has been dated by Universal to November 25, 2026. The movie will be co-produced and distributed internationally by Paramount Pictures.
In the first film, which came out in 2000, Stiller portrayed Greg Focker, a man who aspired to win the favor and blessing of his girlfriend’s strict father. Later, the films developed into family affairs, adding in-laws (Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand were added to the sets of Meet the Fockers in 2004) and children (Little Fockers in 2010).
In the first film, Wilson had memorable scenes as the girlfriend’s ex-fiance, played by Polo. He had several skills, including carpentry, was well-off, and his parents adored him. The character also appeared in the two follow-up films. Wilson will play the role again. He is now reunited with Hamburg, who directed Stick’s final two episodes.
Although a large portion of the second installment’s plot is still under wraps, The Hollywood Reporter can disclose that one plot element centers on the son of Stiller and Polo’s characters, who becomes engaged to a ball-busting woman who doesn’t seem like the right fit for him. Grande is going to portray the fiancée.
Through their Tribeca Productions, Jane Rosenthal and De Niro are producing. Roach will use his Delirious Media to produce. Under the Red Hour Films moniker, Stiller will co-produce alongside John Lesher. Hamburg will use Particular Pictures to produce.
Since the box office failure of 2023’s Haunted Mansion, Wilson has not made an appearance on the big screen. He returned to the character of Mobius, a bureaucrat for the Time Variance Authority, in season two of the Disney+ series Loki that same year.
