The eagerly awaited third entry in its Oscar-winning animated series, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has been formally postponed by Sony Pictures. Targeting school-age viewers in particular to increase turnout, the modest scheduling change is part of a purposeful strategy to better correspond with the summer demographic.

Movie Release Date

The release date of the third movie in Sony’s well-liked web-slinging animation series has been moved from June 4, 2027 to June 25, 2027, a three-week delay.

According to insiders, since some schools would still be open in early June, the latter date will be more convenient for bringing in school-aged children for summer vacation. Internationally, it’s also regarded as a more desirable date.

One of Sony’s greatest assets is the Spider-Verse series. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) made $393.6 million worldwide and took home an Oscar for best animated picture. Because of its innovative, dynamic animation style, it is still regarded as a game-changing film today. The success of 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which brought in $690.5 million worldwide, showed that the franchise had only grown in popularity during the five years between releases.

Four years after Across the Spider-Verse ended on a cliffhanger, Beyond the Spider-Verse will be released. Franchise creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller, along with David Callaham, created the script, which is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson.

Along with the Spider-Verse change, the studio scheduled Buds, an animated film, for March 12, 2027.
