The Alto Knights, Robert De Niro’s controversial crime drama, will soon be accessible on streaming providers less than three months after its theatrical debut. Synopsis

De Niro plays two distinct characters in The Alto Knights: Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two notorious New York crime lords who compete for dominance of the city’s streets but end up on a deadly collision course due to their divergent routes to power (see the synopsis below). The movie is based on a true incident that solidified itself as a brutal chapter in mafia history. During their decades-long conflict, the real-life pair had numerous run-ins with the law, served time in prison, and eventually suffered fatal heart attacks.

The Alto Knights stars Debra Messing as Frank’s wife Bobbie Costello, Kathrine Narduci as Vito’s wife Anna Genovese, Cosmo Jarvis as hired gun Vincent Gigante, and Michael Rispoli as Frank’s close ally Albert Anastasia. Other cast members include Michael Adler, Ed Amatrudo, and De Niro’s archetypal kingpins. The story about two men who became rivals after being friends was written by Nicholas Pileggi with assistance from Joe Bacino, Anthony J. Gallo, Wallace Langham, Louis Mustillo, Frank Piccirillo, Matt Servitto, and Robert Uricola.
