The Holdovers Movie OTT Release Date and Streaming Platform

Alexander Payne wrote and directed the 2023 Christmas comedy-drama The Holdovers. In this late 1970s/early 1971s movie, Paul Giamatti plays a New England boarding school classics teacher who is assigned to go with a small group of kids who don’t have a plan for the Christmas break. Da’Vine Joy Randolph portrays the school food manager, while Dominic Sessa plays a resident student.

The Plot

The Holdovers centers on Paul Giamatti, a sour history instructor at a well-known New England boarding school. Paul must stay on campus throughout the Christmas break in order to watch over the few pupils who are unable to go home.

Paul is also seen in the teaser identifying the “holdovers” of those students. Students who have nowhere to go or whose parents abruptly cancel on them are referred to as holdovers.

It was well appreciated by viewers upon its theatrical debut, and it was recognized with numerous accolades, including the British Academy Awards and Golden Globes, and ranked among the top 10 movies of 2023. In addition, the movie was nominated for five Academy Awards at the 96th ceremony.

Randolph won Best Supporting Actress at the 96th Academy Awards for The Holdovers, and Giamatti was nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor.
