HBO Reveals Dominic McLaughlin as New Harry Potter

A return to J.K. Rowling’s magical world nearly 14 years after Deathly Hallows: Part 2, HBO’s eagerly awaited Harry Potter revival has officially started filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom. On Monday, fans were ecstatic to see Dominic McLaughlin’s debut appearance as the new Harry Potter. Wearing the traditional Hogwarts uniform and the recognizable round glasses, Dominic’s debut suggests an accurate yet modern adaptation of the well-loved tale.

Dominic will be stepping into some very important roles in the new series, replacing Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry in the first Warner Bros. movie series. Along with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, he was chosen from over 30,000 actors.

First Look Revealed

HBO Max posted the first look poster of Dominic as Harry on their Instagram account. He is seen sporting the recognizable round glasses and grinning while standing in a Hogwarts uniform. He signals the start of the expedition by striking a stance with the clapboard. “First-years, step forward,” was the caption that went with the photo. Production on the HBO Original Harry Potter series has begun.

New Lead Cast Members

The creators also revealed the updated character casting. It stars Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, and Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom.

Supporting Cast Announced

In the series, Paapa Essiedu will play McGonagall, and John Lithgow will play Dumbledore. In J.K. Rowling’s wizarding universe, Nick Frost will play Hagrid, and Janet McTeer will play Snape.

Creative Team and Plot Summary

The latest chapter in the well-loved book-turned-movie franchise, directed by Mark Mylod and showrunner Francesca Gardiner, will follow a young Potter as he learns he is a wizard, leaves his Muggle family behind, and embarks on his journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Executive producer J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter universe, is on board and is pleased with the first few episodes of the show.
