The release date of The Dog Stars, the most recent post-apocalyptic science fiction movie from 20th Century Studios and the work of renowned director Ridley Scott, has been formally announced by Disney. The picture, which is based on Peter Heller’s best-selling 2012 book of the same name, stars Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Josh Brolin (Dune), and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria). This is Scott’s next big project after Gladiator II, bringing Heller’s eerie picture of survival and loneliness to the big screen.

The Dog Stars Release Date

The new date for the Dog Stars movie’s theatrical release is March 27, 2026.

Lead by

Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, who has been cast to play the primary role of a civilian pilot named Hig, will head the ensemble cast. Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Josh Brolin (Dune), and Margaret Qualley (Substance) join him.

Directed by

Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson wrote the screenplay, which Scott is directing. Heller, Lily Brooks-Dalton, and Brandon Scott Smith are executive producers, while Mark L. Smith, Cliff Roberts, Michael Pruss, and Scott are producers. Scott Free and 20th Century Studios are the producers.

Storyline

The original novel’s synopsis reads, “Hig’s wife is gone, his friends are dead, and he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, Jasper, and a mercurial, gun-toting misanthrope named Bangley. But when a random transmission beams through the radio of his 1956 Cessna, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists outside their tightly controlled perimeter. Risking everything, he flies past his point of no return and follows its static-broken trail, only to find something that is both better and worse than anything he could ever hope for.”
