Netflix has finally set a release date for The Old Guard 2, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to their hugely successful superhero film from 2020.
Release Date
“The Old Guard 2” will begin streaming worldwide on July 2, 2025. This summer release date positions the film as a major addition to Netflix’s 2025 lineup of original content.
Cast
Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor all reprise their roles from the first movie, which came out in 2020. The newcomers to the franchise are Uma Thurman and Henry Golding.
In The Old Guard 2, Theron plays Andromache of Scythia, sometimes known as Andy, who must confront an enigmatic enemy (Thurman) while confronting her newfound mortality.
Writers and the Director
Mahoney directed The Old Guard 2 from a scenario by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker, and he was the second-unit director for The Rise of Skywalker. The graphic novel series by Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernandez, who also wrote the screenplay for the first film, served as the inspiration for the franchise.
Alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Grange, AJ Dix, Beth Kono, and Marc Evans, Theron serves as the film’s producer.
In the trailer for the Netflix film The Old Guard 2, Charlize Theron and her group of immortal mercenaries encounter a new obstacle.
Storyline
The Old Guard 2, directed by Victoria Mahoney, who became the first female director of a Star Wars film (The Rise of Skywalker second unit), intends to delve further into issues of identity, treachery, and the philosophical significance of immortality.
Andy is no longer physically unbeatable. The sequel will examine how she leads a group of unwavering soldiers while growing increasingly human herself. The original movie concluded with the news that her regenerative skills were waning.
