Square Enix and Sunrise released the first teaser trailer for As One, a feature-length theatrical prequel anime to the Starwing Paradox game.
Upcoming Movie Release Date
As One, an upcoming anime film and prequel to the game Starwing Paradox, will hit Japanese theaters on August 22.
Director
Ippei Gyoubu will create the mechanical designs for the film. Director Kobun Shizuno (the Case Closed/Detective Conan film series) and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) are among the previously revealed staff members.
Character Designer
Gyoubu is well recognized for his mechanical design work on contemporary Gundam anime series, such as Gundam – Reconguista in G (2014-2015), Mobile Suit GUNDAM Iron Blooded Orphans (2015-2017), and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (2022-2023). He was also responsible for the mechanical design of the original game.
Storyline
The anime film AS ONE is based on Square Enix’s arcade game Starwing Paradox, which was first released in Japan in November 2018. It will be a prequel to the game’s story, set 20 years before it. The term AS ONE alludes to “AZ-One,” the pilot and player of the humanoid robot weapon “Aerial” in the original game.
The film is a wholly original plot based on director Shizuno’s vision, which was developed in collaboration with the production crew and screenwriters. It follows the original game’s location and perspective. Sadamoto, who was also in charge of the original game’s character design, created all of the characters from scratch.
