‘Buddy’: Topher Grace Signs on for Casper Kelly’s Next Horror Thriller

Topher Grace and Cristin Milioti star in the upcoming independent horror movie Buddy, which was directed by Casper Kelly, the man behind Too Many Cooks. BoulderLight and Low Spark Films are producing what is being called a “new experience in horror” and is now shooting in Ohio.

Kelly is directing the film and co-writing it with Jamie King, who previously worked on the Disney+ family film World’s Best. Kelly is the creator of Adult Swim series like Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell and the horror comedy viral hit Too Many Cooks.

The project is being referred to as a “new experience in horror,” but plot specifics are being kept secret.

Production Companies

Through their production business BoulderLight Pictures, which is having a busy year with Companion, Friendship, and the impending horror film Weapons on their docket, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are producing.

Financing & Distribution

Low Spark Films, a Cleveland, Ohio-based production studio with credits including Emily the Criminal and Take Shelter, is being produced by Tyler Davidson and Drew Sykes. The initiative is being co-financed by the corporation.

Vice President of Development and Production at BoulderLight Executive producer Tracy Rosenblum is involved. The film is being made in collaboration with Substance and Sipur Studios (Bad Boy). The project’s distribution rights are being jointly represented by Range Select and UTA.

Although Grace’s friendly role as the lead of the now-classic comedy That ’70s Show made him a bold-faced name, the actor has worked to change that perception.

They costarred as a colorful and dangerous drug seller in Kevin Williamson’s Netflix criminal drama, The Waterfront, just last year. In the Lionsgate action film Flight Risk, he again played a fugitive informant attempting to elude a maniacal Mark Wahlberg. They starred in the critically acclaimed and award-nominated psychological horror film Heretic last year. Grace’s next appearance is in the A24 thriller Huntington, with Margaret Qualley and Glen Powell.
