On Wednesday night, the wrestling teams from Santa Ynez, both the boys’ and girls’, triumphed over San Luis Obispo at home. The boys’ team won 45-30, and the girls’ team won 36-21.

For the first time since the Santa Ynez girls wrestling program was founded in 2021, the Santa Ynez girls won a dual meet.

“It is exciting to have large enough numbers in our program to be competitive in dual matches, and we look forward to becoming more competitive as we continue to grow and develop,” Chantalle Castellanos, the coach at Santa Ynez

Malia Ortiz (fall at 117 pounds), Ariela Contreras (fall at 127) and Allison Zepeda (forfeit at 137 pounds) were the Santa Ynez lower weights winners. Anelly Tovalin (forfeit at 142 pounds), Elizabeth Ramirez (forfeit at 147 pounds), and Kylie Franson (fall at 157 pounds) were the Santa Ynez upper weights winners.

The Pirates secured their second league victory by winning six of the seven games involving higher weights.

Pirates Ben Flores (152 pounds), Jonathan Hansen (192), Kaj Krezschmer (167), Fernando Nunez (177), and Hayden Pahler (159) all prevailed by fall in the upper weight division. Anthony Herrera prevailed at 287 via forfeit.

Santa Ynez’s remarkable 134 pounds Santino Alvaro achieved a technical fall score of 18-3. The other Santa Ynez lower weights winner was Andrew Badger, who won by a major decision of 13–4 at 128 pounds.

“With league wins over St. Joseph and San Luis Obispo, we are gaining momentum and looking ahead to our dual next week against Lompoc,” Castellanos stated at the time.

45 Cabrillo, 36 St. Joseph

The Conquistadores prevailed in a dual match that featured numerous forfeits when Cabrillo outscored St. Joseph 21–12 in the mat matches.

The winners of the Cabrillo lower weight division were Dominick Rojas (fall at 145 pounds), Andrew Wallace (forfeit at 126 pounds), Robert Magana (forfeit at 132 pounds), and Finn Woodworth (fall at 138 pounds).

Cabrillo upper weight winners included Brandon Rehkoph (fall at 157 pounds), Cole Robinson (forfeit at 165), Carlos Orellana (8-6 decision at 175) and Cole Higgs (forfeit at 190).

Dominic Day (forfeit at 106 pounds), Daniel Limon (forfeit at 113) and Nico Paravato (fall at 120) were the St. Joseph lower weights winners. Winners of the St. Joseph upper weight division were Dominic Soares (forfeit at 285), Christian Aguirre (fall at 215), and Abraham Meza (fall at 150 pounds).

Teams from the Pioneer Valley triumph over Santa Maria

Dual matches were held at Wilson Gym in Santa Maria, where the Panthers teams triumphed over their rivals across town. The Pioneer Valley girls triumphed 66-10, while the Pioneer Valley boys won 38-34.

Luis Juarez (fall), Emmanuel Lazaro (fall), Kayden Gonzalez (fall), Nelson Torres (fall), Dan Vega (fall), and Jesus Flores (decision) were the boys champions from the Pioneer Valley.
