Americans are known for the straight line speed with their huge engines and gigantic horse power. This is the norm but on a sunny day in September 2007, little known American hypercar manufacturer Shelby Supercar of North America broke the Guinness book of records by registering the fastest production car record at the time beating the previous world record Bugatti Veyron.

They did this by achieving an average speed of 257mph on a remote highway over two laps

From this day on the rest was history as SSC North America became a house hold name and enter the league of the big boys.

Today SSC North America still holds this incredible record with their successor to the ultimate Aero TT called the Tuatara. In January 2021 the SSC Tuatara achieve an average speed of 316 mph broke once more the Bugatti Chiron record.

This Saturday at Mecum Auctions in Monterey vin number 001 SSC Ultimate Aero TT will be sold to the highest bidder.
