Lights, camera, action – The Entertainment Paper chatted with Hollywood’s newest leading man, Dennis Mailu, and his latest role in the new movie ‘Bald Patch (The Black Supper)’. The Kenyan-born star, who’s talent is dazzling the City of Angels, gave us the inside scoop!
Welcome to The Entertainment Paper. Can you tell us about the film ‘Bald Patch (The Black Supper)’?
Thank you! This movie is a psychological thriller and follows Bola Rhodes who, after losing her entire family, is left with the difficult burden of moving on. However, her decision making takes an ominous turn when she meets Daniel and the Mute Man of the Bridge, a cult like organization who make her contemplate between her own life and death. This is a story of mental health, love, and acceptance.
The film was directed by Jide Kol, written by Jeffrey Bowie Jr. and Prince Adu Mensah.
How did you become involved in the film?
I worked with the director Jide Kol on a film set last year. Our connection was great, and he pitched me the idea of auditioning for the film. I fell in love with the character, and I was glad that I got to be selected for the part.
Can you tell us about your character?
I play Daniel, the Head of the Bridge Organization. He is a god like figure who guides Bola to search within herself to heal from losing her family. He has been through loss himself however the methods he employs his clients at the Bridge to use are unorthodox. He is strong willed and has an unsettling terror about him.
The movie was filmed in a cabin in the woods, which seem to be “en vogue” right now. Did you find the shoot being so remote challenging? Any cabin fever?!
No cabin fever to report, however I did love the chic feeling of filming in a secluded place. The travel time to set was about 2 hours and having an early call time meant getting up early to beat the traffic! Other than that, the journey was smooth sailing.
What’s up next for you?
I have been getting into more Voiceover work. I worked ADR on a SONY film earlier this month and have an upcoming studio session for a short film I was in called BET that is due to be released soon!
