A Toronto native artist on the rise known for proudly representing his hometown of Rexdale, Thelonious is recognized by his listeners for his polished lyricism, introspective storytelling and captivating delivery. With both his parents coming from a professional jazz & gospel background, he was exposed to the varying cultures of music in his youth eventually blossoming into his own love for creating.

Thelonious’ music combines the unapologetic nature of the 90’s Boom-Bap era, served with all the vulnerabilities of the new school and subtle complexities of jazz and soul. A unique blend of lyricism and conceptual storytelling like that of J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, the Creator perfectly compliments his jazzy production style similar to Smino and A Tribe Called Quest embedded with swinging drums and complex chord progressions.

Thelonious has been patiently honing his craft for the past five years studying the artistry and careers of those before him, and has been consistently releasing music and evolving as an artist for the last three. He’s come a long way in his short time as an artist, from being featured on television shows, to appearances on some of Spotify’s more recognized editorial playlists, to his latest performance at the Juno Awards showcase for emerging artists. This is only the beginning for the young emcee, In five years he hopes to be recognized by his peers as one of the most talented rappers of his generation and make his mark on the genre as a whole, as he continues to develop his sound and push boundaries.

Fresh off his rendition of J. Cole’s ‘Cole Summer’, Thelonious’ ‘Silverstone Summertimes II’ is an ode to his community and the city that raised him as he depicts the journey of a young man battling the temptations and expectations of his environment. Coming from Rexdale, Thelonious is no stranger to the challenges of growing up in an underprivileged community. Where many of his friends took to the streets he chose to pursue a career in music in the hopes of inspiring them.

This is the first single off his highly anticipated upcoming EP ‘Albion Road Demos’ which will showcase Thelonious’ growth as a musician as he continues to step outside his comfort zone with his beat selection and take a more hands on approach in the production process. The tape will also include a couple of features from some other recognized Canadian artists, so stay tuned in as Thelonious takes the next step in his musical journey.
