Friday, the festival announced that Elton John will headline the UK leg of his farewell tour at the Glastonbury Festival next summer.

In a statement that was published on the website of the festival, Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis announced that John would headline the Pyramid Stage on June 25, the festival’s final night. Most of the time, the Glastonbury Festival takes place in Somerset, southwest England. Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Paul McCartney were the main performers in 2021.

In a statement shared by his publicist, the singer said he “couldn’t be more excited to be headlining the Pyramid Stage,” adding that he could not “wait to embrace the spirit of the greatest festival in the world. It’s going to be incredibly emotional.”

“It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year,” Eavis said.

“This will be the final UK show of Elton’s last ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send offs,” she added.

The performance will close the UK leg of John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour,” publicized as his last ever, with more than 300 dates before his retirement after 52 years of touring.

The tour began in 2018 and was originally scheduled to conclude in 2021. It will now conclude in the summer of 2019 after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As the end of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour comes into view, there is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans. They have been beyond brilliant, and have supported me through all the highs and lows of my career,” the five-time Grammy winner said.

John has performed throughout Europe and, most recently, North America thus far. He donned a sequined Dodgers baseball uniform when he took the stage last month at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, replicating his appearance from 1975.
